One red, one white, and one blue marble are in a box.  In another box are seven pieces of paper, each one having one day of the week written on it.  You get one chance to pick from one box.  If you draw a blue marble or a weekend day (Saturday or Sunday), you get to be excused from one quiz.  Which box offers you the best chance of getting out of a quiz?  Explain how you got your answer.

6th Graders:  Answer the following for a contest entry.

You notice a bag of gumballs that sells for $3.00 at a candy store.  You wonder if this is a good deal for gumballs and ask the clerk how many gumballs come in the bag.  The clerk says, “Less than 100 come in the bag.  Also, if you count the gum by twos, threes, or fours, one gumball would be left over each time.  None are left over if you count by fives.”  How many gumballs could be in the bag?
